Carl GrobeProfessor
Biography
I have been teaching at Westfield State since 1998. I was hired primarily to teach courses in plant biology, which is my passion. Plants are often thought of as static and boring, but a little investigation reveals that they are dynamic, complex, and tremendously important! Teaching allows me to continually expand my own knowledge and refine techniques and skills to better serve my students. I try to draw on my own experiences to assist my students as they expand their learning.
I grew up in Maine, where I spent a considerable amount of time scrambling through the woods and exploring tide pools. These activities undoubtedly influenced my current interests and career choices.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, sailing, and being near the ocean. I have been a certified SCUBA diver since I was in high school.
